This podcast features alumnus author Calvin D. Sun, class of 2004. Calvin is a board-certified physician specializing in emergency medicine, a public speaker, author, activist, and travel writer based in New York City. He has worked at multiple emergency departments—most notably during the COVID-19 pandemic—as well as large-scale events primarily across the New York City metropolitan area.

Calvin is also the founder of The Monsoon Diaries: a blog-turned-travel community that has taken hundreds of readers to over 190 countries and territories in the past ten years including North Korea, Nauru, Greenland, and Antarctica. The Monsoon Diaries has been featured on BBC News, ABC News, MSNBC, TED, “National Geographic,” and “USA Today.”

His book, published by HarperCollins with a foreword by Lisa Ling, is “The Monsoon Diaries: A Doctor’s Journey of Hope and Healing from the ER Frontlines to the Far Reaches of the World.”

This podcast features alumna author Phoebe Zerwick class of 1978. Phoebe is an award-winning investigative journalist, narrative writer, and college professor. Her writing has appeared in O, The Oprah Magazine; National Geographic; the Nation; the Winston-Salem Journal; and Glamour, among other publications. Her work has been recognized by the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University, Investigative Reporters and Editors, the Society of Professional Journalists, Columbia University, the North Carolina Press Association, and has been featured in the HBO documentary, The Trials of Darryl Hunt. A graduate of the Columbia University School of Journalism, Phoebe is the director of the journalism program at Wake Forest University, where she teaches writing and journalism, including courses taught at the law school in collaboration with the director of Wake Forest's Innocence & Justice Clinic. She lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with her husband, a dog, and three cats. Her blended family includes three grown children. She is the author of Beyond Innocence: The Life Sentence of Darryl Hunt.

A graduate of Pomona College, he is currently in the PhD program in the English department at the University of California, Davis. The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu is his debut novel.

This podcast features Associate Professor of Education and (by courtesy) History at Stanford University Emily J. Levine class of 1997. She received her PhD in history and the humanities at Stanford and her BA from Yale, where she later returned as an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow. She was the recipient of fellowships from the National Humanities Center and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and her work is currently supported by a multi-year Stanford grant dedicated to recovering the university as a public good. Before arriving at Stanford, Emily was associate professor of European history at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she held the Candace Bernard and Robert Glickman Dean’s Professorship and chaired the Triangle Intellectual History Seminar. She is the author of Allies and Rivals: German-American Exchange and the Rise of the Modern Research University. Her previous book, Dreamland of Humanists: Warburg, Cassirer, Panofsky, and the Hamburg School, was awarded the Herbert Baxter Adams Prize by the American Historical Association. Emily has published essays in the New York Times, the LA Review of Books, the Washington Post, Foreign Policy, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and Inside Higher Ed, as well as in top scholarly journals.

This podcast features Lower School Learning Specialist Monique Duncan who has been at Trinity since 2017. Monique is dedicated to influencing youth positively through education and advocacy. She writes and illustrates multicultural children's stories that inspire, amuse, and foster a love of reading, while reflecting images and experiences with which children of diverse cultures can identify. She aims to help cultivate their understanding of themselves, their communities, and the world around them. Monique is passionate about representation in children’s literature and wants Black children to feel affirmed when reading her stories. Her most recent book is When Mama Braids My Hair, which describes a young girl's experience of having her hair braided and the bond it creates with her mother. In 2019, When Mama Braids My Hair was nominated for an Ezra Jack Keats Award. It was also selected for the Cooperative Children’s Book Center Choices 2019 best-of-the-year list, and it was featured on the PBS series, Let's Learn

This podcast features Vincent Katz class of 1978. Vincent is a poet, translator, critic, editor, and curator. He is the author of fifteen books of poetry, including Broadway for Paul and Previous Glances: an intense togetherness. He won the 2005 National Translation Award, given by the American Literary Translators Association, for his book of translations from Latin, The Complete Elegies of Sextus Propertius. He was awarded a Rome Prize Fellowship in Literature at the American Academy in Rome for 2001-2002. Vincent has done book collaborations with artists, including James Brown, Rudy Burckhardt, Francesco Clemente, Wayne Gonzales, and Alex Katz, and with poets, including Anne Waldman. He writes frequently on contemporary art and has published reviews, articles, and essays on a wide range of visual artists, including Ghada Amer and Reza Farkondeh, Jennifer Bartlett, Janet Fish, Nabil Nahas, Kiki Smith, Beat Streuli, and Cy Twombly. He curated a museum exhibition about Black Mountain College and he curated "Street Dance: The New York Photographs of Rudy Burckhardt" for the Museum of the City of New York.

This podcast features alumna author Katherine “Kitty” Harvey class of 1999. Kitty is an adjunct assistant professor in the Security Studies Program at Georgetown University. She is also on the board of advisors at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and holds a PhD in Middle Eastern Studies from King's College London. Previously, she served as an intelligence officer in the US Navy, with tours in the Middle East, Europe, and at sea.  Her book is A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: The Saudi Struggle for Iraq, an exploration into why the Saudis refused to engage with Iraq’s post-2003 Shia-led government, despite continual outreach by Iraq’s new leaders and considerable pressure from the United States.
